Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know and to describe the correlation between the passion of reading and students’ skill in reading fast, to know and to describe the correlation between the diction masteryand students’ skill in reading fast, and to know and to describe the correlation between the passion of reading and passion of reading to the students’ skill in reading fast at the 8th grade students of SMP N I Abung Semuli Tahun Pelajaran 2017/2018. The research method which is used in this research is survey method in correlational analysis technique. This method is used to observe the object that is researched directly to know whether or not there is a correlation between the passion of reading and students’ skill in reading fast, there is a correlation between the diction mastery and students’ skill in reading fast, and there is a correlation between the passion of reading and diction mastery to the students’ skill in reading fast. The result of this research are: 1) There is a positive and significant correlation between the passion of reading and students’ skill in reading fast in the correlational number (rx1y)0,978, while the contribution given by the passion of reading tostudents’ skill in reading fast is 95,65%; 2) There is a positive and significant correlation between the diction mastery and students’ skill in reading fast in the correlational number (rx2y)0,924, while the contribution given by the diction mastery tostudents’ skill in reading fast is 85,38%; 3) There is a positive and significant correlation between the passion of reading and diction masteryto the students’ skill in reading fast in the correlational number (rx1x2Y) 0,529, while the contribution given by the the passion of reading and diction mastery to the students’ skill in reading fast is 28%. Based on the data of research, it can be concluded that the passion of reading and diction mastery are both the important factors which can influence the students’ skill in reading fast.
